The history of Domaine Gayda
Domaine Gayda was built in 1749 as a post house for travelers, where horses were kept refreshed and changed. The farm buildings have since been converted into luxury accommodation.
Owners Tim Ford and Anthony Record joined forces with winemaker Vincent Chansault in 2004, creating the new, modern face of wine in the region.
On the site of the famous “Moscow Tree”, we built the cellar, restaurant and store. This emblematic tree takes its name from the cadastral title of the vineyards surrounding the estate. The tree was a navigation beacon used by the pioneers of the “Aéropostale” airmail service made famous by pilots such as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Domaine Gayda is passionate about the traditional grape varieties grown on the many soils and climates of the Languedoc. Varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc were planted on the farm of origin, where the climatic influences of the Atlantic allow these imported varieties to flourish. While the vineyards are firmly rooted in tradition and “terroir”, the winery itself is driven byinnovation, with investment in all the latest equipment and technology to ensure that vinification and ripening take place in optimal conditions.
In the world’s largest wine-growing region, Domaine Gayda strives to create a wine whose provenance and sense of “being” reflect the quality and diversity of Languedoc Roussillon.
